Frequently Asked Questions
How long has Bob’s Trophy Charters been around?
Bob’s was started in 1980 and has been successfully run these past 40+ years. It hasn’t been owned by anyone named Bob since the last 80’s, the well-known name and great reputation has stuck – so why change the name.
How far in advance should I book my fishing charter?
It’s not unusual for customers to book their trips a year in advance to get the dates they want. The month of July is a very busy time for travelers in Alaska and the schedule does fill up well in advance. Book your dates as far in advance as possible to eliminate any problem but we will do our very best to get you out fishing even with little notice.
Do you offer discounts or special rates?
We offer discounts to seniors (65 and over) and military both active and veterans all year long and children rates on the Nauti-Lady.
Do I need a fishing license?
Yes, anyone 18 year old and older needs an Alaska fishing license. Non-residents, age of 16 and older need to have licenses as well. The cost is $15 for a one day’s license and you can also buy 3 day, 7 day, 14 day or annual licenses either online from the Alaska Fish and Game or at our office. King Salmon stamps are also required if fishing for Kings and they are $15/day.
How do I get my fish home?
The crew at Bob’s will fillet the fish you catch and then a processer called Homer Fish Processing meets the boats when they return each day. Homer Fish can then take the fish to their shop where they can vacuum pack, freeze and prepare it for the rest of their journey. They charge $1.65 – $1.85 per lb. to vacuum pack and freeze the fish and then can ship it or package it for you if you plan to bring home as luggage. The FedEx shipping cost is additional and depends on where you live and the total weight.
How many fish can I keep?
The daily limit for Halibut is two fish per day, one of those can be any size and the second one needs to be 28″ or less. Halibut are regulated by the Federal government. There is no annual limit in 2024 on Halibut. King salmon are available in our waters year-round and the daily limit is 1 fish per day from April 1st thru September 1st and five fish limit for that time period. From Sepember 1st thru March 31st the limit is 2 per day. Silver salmon start to show up around late July and we generally fish for them thru August. The limit is three fish per day and there is no annual limit.
