Perl Island Facts
- Located off the Kenai Peninsula coast, part of the Chugach Islands. Perl is situated between Elizabeth Island and East Chugach Island and has been known to have some of the best halibut fishing areas in the world.
- Formerly known as “Isla de Arriaga”.
- Named for Perl D. Blodgett, a 19th-century settler in Kodiak.
- About 2.5 miles (4.0 km) long and 1.75 miles (2.82 km) wide.
- Sea Lions can be found on the south side of the island hanging around the cliffs
- There are no bears, deer or moose on the island.
- There is a caldera on the island with a lake in the middle.
- You can access Perl by boat or plane.
- Camping areas are privately owned.
- Our Perl Island Lodging is hosted by Foot on the Gas Enterprises. Discovery One and Two will be ready for you when you arrive. Discovery One was built on the hit Discovery Channel show Alaska the Last Frontier by Atz Lee, Atz and Eivan Kilcher for our friend Grady Avant. Bill Siering and Kelly Heidbreder bought the cabin in 2023.They expanded and built Discovery Two in 2025. Now the campsite sleeps 7 campers with modest remote amenities like a hot shower, hot running water for washing dishes, bunk sleeping accommodations with mattress pads, solar and gas powered generators and remote kitchen equipment.
- Discovery Channel recorded five episodes of Alaska the Last Frontier on Perl Island, building 2 cabins. Both cabins are owned by Bill Siering and Kelly Heidbreder, Foot on the Gas Enterprises.
- FOG Enterprises also owns the first homestead on the island, formerly owned by the original Perl Island Homesteader, Harley Hess. FOG is in the process of renovating this structure.
- FOG Enterprises works exclusively with Bob’s Trophy Charters for this excursion and all camping amenities.
- You can also camp on FOG Enterprises rustic camping locations booking through Bob’s Trophy Charters website or Hipcamp. This is a campsite rental, inland lake fishing, and hiking excursion to explore all of the beauty on Perl Island.
